From who?

There's an argument for and against epoxy boards at the upper end of surfing, although mostly it comes down to preference.

At your level, epoxies only have advantages - they're tougher and they're (often, but not always) lighter.
So don't worry about that just yet (or for the next 5 to 10 years or so). The measurements look about right to me, but I know diddly squat about longboards so I'll let someone else chime in.

Where did you hear that from ? "Epoxy boards aren't as good" for what ? Paddling, Catching the wave, Standing up ? I think those things, which will be important to you as a newbie, are determined by YOU, not the board wether it's made with EPS/ Epoxy or PU/polyester resin.

If you don't know how to ride a bike, does it matter if the Tour de France riders use carbon fiber bikes ? Can you ride a straight line if it's a Steel frame versus an Aluminum frame ? It's a bike, go ride it.

Yeah, I guess I ran into a surfer who just didn't like epoxy. I've found another board, that's an NSP92, 9'2" x 22 7/8" x 3 3/16". I'm waiting to hear back if I can grab it. It's $250 and after everyones help, I think I found the right one.

Any of those last three boards - the 9ft ones - should be good (assuming they are in good conditions)
