Just bought a short board need some advice

Postby LBdewbiez » Sun Aug 30, 2015 12:51 pm

So I have been riding a 7'6 CI water hog for a while. I really got the hang of it so I thought it would be good to get a short board. I got a 6'4 ...lost sub scorcher 2. I was wondering if you guys had any tips for the transition. Also i am 15 about 5'7 and 140lbs

Move closer to the beach to catch the wave (late drops). Learn to create speed (pumping). Make your movements a little smoother. Maybe a little less pressure on the back foot when turning

Otherwise just practice. The take off point is likely the major change; otherwise it will just be learning the board and how it reacts and how you balance etc. a shorter board won't be as forgiving of any technical flaws, like a slow pop up or a bit unbalanced. So it may seem like you have to do things different - well, you do but only to correct flaws, not to actually do it that different to how you would surf your other board if you were doing it correctly.

You may find no real changes are required

Have you started surfing it? Are there particular things you are finding hard?

@dct thanks for the reply, I have been out on it for a few times now. what I am finding hard is that
-I don't know if I should have my feet up or down and if it will make a difference in my pop up.

- also I find body positioning a bit hard. On my buddies 5'8 CI pod mod I could position my self easily (I think its because of the length and its not as pointy as my sub scorcher, even though the sub scorcher is wider)

- I was also wondering that when i move up on the board and start to catch a wave is it ok it the tip of the board to start to dip in the water?

I will post more on my short board journey as i go along. Thanks
