new board advice

Hello,

I was thinking about buying this refurbished funboard 7'6
What are your thoughts on it?
It has glassed on fiberglass fins and is a hard top board (not a foamie)

You were doing well on the 8 foot foamie? If so this should be a reasonable step down from there. However don't be surprized if you have trouble with it initially, you should get aquainted with it after a few sessions. If you were having trouble with the foamie then expect double the trouble with the shorter board.

Yes I am catching 90% of the waves on my 8' foamie. I am riding across the face and doing bottom turns.

I wanna transition to a smaller board...

And what are the ideal conditions to take this board out?

When there are waves If you can get out it's ideal
You have a lot of experience to get before you reach the limits of performance on that board.

which board does well for YOU in which conditions? is the question. I would guess that would be a decent all around board for a wide variety of waves from waist high to double overhead but it is difficult to say for sure exactly what this board is made for without closer examination. I think new surfers often look at surfboards like new golfers look at golf clubs. They think this board is going to make a difference in how they surf and while it may make a significant difference to advanced surfers or golfers the beginners aren't going to benefit much from that. They still need to learn the basics and any old golf club will do for that. At any rate it is probably time to get off the faomie and onto a real board and this one should be good for a while.
