Buying First Surfboard

Postby drewedson81 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 1:12 am

Hello,

I am 6'1" and weigh 225. Looking to get into surfing more seriously, have rented in the past. Planning on taking private lessons, wondering a specific make and model surfboards that would be a good board to start on? Keeping in mind my height, weight, and novice skill level, I have been told between 7'6" - 8'ft with a volume around 76.

Are there specific boards or links to these products that I should look at? I have been told a Santa Cruz Pumpkin Seed is a very versatile board..?? Please advise.

Thanks for the help,

Drew

Rent a couple more times trying out decent boards around or above the 9ft range.
An 8ft pumpkin seed would very much at the bottom of anything I would suggest for your weight!
Go to the person you plan to lesson with and try the sizes suggested with them coaching you.
Every bit of surfboard advertising talks about versatile each type of board is, rest assured unless you are a really good surfer, they are not!
