Second hand board, what to look for?

Postby Fay » Wed Aug 15, 2012 8:30 pm

I am just getting back into surfing after a 14 year absence  and I will be needing to get a board, which I am hoping to do when I go to Newquay in the first week of October because I'll have more chance of finding one down there than I will here: I'm on the Isle of Wight - we have a surf shop but there's nothing second hand around at the moment here.
Considering I'm only just getting back into this lark - I'm taking lessons to get back into things, and hiring boards in the meantime - I think it might be best if I get a second hand board rather than wrecking a new one!

I'll be looking for something around 8' long (I'm 5'9" and 170lbs and, to all intents and purposes going back to being a beginner), no shortboards for me as I was crap on those even when I was surfing regularly. What do I need to look for when buying a second hand board? Any dings, obviously, but what else do I need to be careful of and look out for?

Cheers
Fay
