This board too small for me?

Postby noname » Wed Dec 30, 2009 12:30 pm

Hi, I'm pretty new to surfing and was wondering would a 6'0 softboard be too small for me. I'm 5'8 and weigh around 122lb. Also as i am a student i wont have enough money to purchase boards over $AU200. Also i've done several lesson and have been able to stand up and stand on it until the wave dies out, however this is only on the whitewater bit of the wave. Now i have another question... everytime i try to catch a unbroken wave my boards nose most time seems to dip into the water and therefore i wipe out. Any suggestions on how i could fix this problem?

Thanks in advance :woot:

6' sounds a little small but if you have no problems with it in whitewater then you should be fine on it when you get better on unbroken waves. think a 6'8 minimal hardboard might be a better buy tho.

second question sounds like you are a little bit too far forward on the board try edging an inch or so back until you find the sweet spot. also don't forget to arch your back as the wave grabs you.

dont buy a softboard! theyre really only any good for just getting going in the whitewater. you should look for a second hand minimal around 7' for your first board if youve already had some lessons.
