Board for me?

Postby SDSU Bound » Wed Dec 16, 2009 3:55 am

hello i'm 6'4 and weigh 204 and gaining a lot of more weight to probably going to weigh about 220-230 by the time i finish working out. I'm musclar not fat. But i've been surfing for a year and a half and i want to get a short board but because i'm so big i don't know what sizes i can and i cant. Any help or advise will help a lot. I'm also 17. I gain weigh quickly because I'm training to become a professional fight and will probably sign with American Top Fighter in the next couple of months.

hey, let me start by saying i am a beginner-intermediate and i am 6'5 and 230lbs and i surf a 7'2 x 19 1/2 x 2 3/8. I came down to this from a 7'6 nsp and I had it made to a fuller shape to deal with smaller days too because i don't surf enough to justify a large quiver.

It is plenty big enough with enough float for anything over waist high and the biggest i have surfed it in (not very well) was over head high. If your anything like me and it's mainly for bigger stuff you could certainly go down to a 7' in a more typical shortboard template.

Whilst deciding to get this board i surfed a few others and the smallest i could realistically get anywhere with was a 6'8. It was like a submerged toothpick and only really usable for me in head high or bigger.

I'm 200 and surf a 6'8 with no problem, but have been surfing for 15 yars. As a begginer my go-to board was a 7'2 also, but mine was 20" wide and 2 3/4 thick. A bitch to duckdive but really easy to catch waves. Here is San Diego they call them california guns, or semigun, cause usually guns are narry and thin.
