BIC mini mal 7'3 or 7'9

Don't shoot me for this... I'm after a BIC mini mal 6'3 of 6'9 :s

I only get surfing a few times a year but this has been happenening for some time now - might as well get a board rather than the cost and hassle of hireing. I'm after cheep cheep cheep and I'm quite at one with looking deeply uncool

I'm 6 foot and 13 1/2 stone, does this mean I should be looking at 7'9 rahter than 7'3? I'm fairly good with my ballance (Climbing is my thing of choice) and was able to stand on foam boards instantly - so if it is only the' difficulty' of a slighty shorter board rather than the shorter one being simply 'wrong' for my weight, I guess I want the shorter one?

Anyway if anyone can offer their opinion (or just tell me NOOO DON'T GET A THE BIC ITS CLUNKY / HEAVY / SPEND MORE / FOR TW**TS / YOU'LL OUT GROW IT!!! etc) please fire away, Thanks!

NOOOOOOO don't get a Bic!!!! as soon as you start surfing properly you will know why! i started with a 7"3 board, tried a custom and never went back! seriously, if you shop around you will be able to find a much better board than a Bic haha. Bics are mass produced and do you really want to be buying a surfboard from a company known for making biros. think about it.
HOWEVER...
if you do go for a Bic go for a 7"9, get the basics then start surfing properly!!! haha

A 7'3" is less painful than a 7'9" inserted into your anus after you have crashed your indestructible BIC into someone's mega expensive custom board.

But seriously, if (and I mean IF) you can get a custom for a little more than the BIC, then do so. If you can't, then ignore the snobs and just enjoy the surf with whatever you have.

if you only get to surf a couple of times a year then get a longboard. longrest widest, thickest one you can find. some of the good ones will be more manoueverable than the BIC even at 9'+.
think of it like this... say you get away 3 weekends a year. at most that's 9x3 hour sessions.
longer boards catch more waves, more waves = more fun.
if you start surfing more often, then think about going shorter. a couple times a year is nowhere near enough to be sacrificing your wavecount for a shorter board.

Thanks for all your replys! Its got me thinking now..

Bic really is all the money, so I've started watching the prices on 2nd hand boards, especialy with the 'longer boards catch more waves, more waves = more fun' equasion in mind - that's pretty much sums up where I am a the mo

good choice... you won't regret it. have yet to meet a surfer who regrets having a longboard in their quiver. even if you do get a bit more serious down the line, it's always nice to have one to pull out when the waves aren't quite what you were expecting.
