Surfing Waves

Hello to all,

Realising I'd already posted a question before introducing myself, I thought I'd better get an introduction on here sharpish...

My name is Nick, I'm a 50 year old surfer on the UK East coast.
I've been surfing for about 15 years, but unfortunately where I live (just 4k from the coast) doesn't get any waves and the most consistent surf is at 3.5 hour drive.
This distance means I do not get in anywhere near as often as I'd like, so I probably have the ability of someone who has been surfing for about 25 minutes.

I currently have a range of sizes and models in my quiver:
6'4" Escape Cornish Pasty
7' Catchsurf odyssey log (JOB model)
7'4" Adams Cobra
8' Hobie Comp Slug
9'1.5" "Homebrew" (unbranded)
9'2" Bing Izzy Rider

I'm favouring the bigger boards these days, the Pasty hasn't been out of the garden in 3 years and the "good lady" wants to turn it into a wall-hanger (I'm resisting this)

I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas/banter with everyone, although I feel this will probably be more of a one-way street for a bit as I have more questions then answers.

Welcome Nick. East coast does occasionally have some descent swell in Cromer. When I lived there I would go there once a month during the winter and probably every weekend in the summer.

You just have to look at the swell, anything higher than 7 seconds means it's going to be clean!

I always seem to luck-out at Cromer, it’s about 45miles from me so definitely doable.
Have managed East Runton a few times but it gets very crowded there if it’s a weekend.
Sea Palling is another spot, but if you know Norfolk you know what a nightmare getting around can be, especially in the summer.
But you’re right, I should probably make more of an effort locally, I think I’ve been spoilt a little with the conditions I see in North Yorkshire.

I used to do a 4 hours round trip to Cromer with some friends. The MSW forecast for Cromer is always spot on.

As the beach is substantially lower than the boardwalk.It blocks out most of the wind and produce really nice waves when the star aligns. Cromer is just the easiest to get to and parking is easy if you get there early in the mornings. Norfolk is crowded in the summer but we normally get there very early.

I haven't been to North Yorkshire but I did go to Long sands up in Newcastle.
