Hi, I´m David, always liked the forum here, got a lot of good advice, thanks for all your comments and help. Great place to search. I´m a beginner, started surfing quite late, age 40, rode my first green waves in Cape Town SA. I have not more than sic month surfing experience under my belt - so wouldn´t call myself an intermediate - I´m still a beginner learning the basics. I know my limits, won´t become a ripper in my lifetime. I m happy when I learn the basics pretty good, catching more waves. Unfortunately, I m landlocked in Germany most of the time. I really envy you people having the ocean in your backyard. Trying to find ways to spend more time near the ocean.
I like the big long boards - although sometimes its a pain in the ass to get them to the Lineup - for me there is nothing like a long smooth ride, walking the plank. I tried some shorter boards 6,6 7,0 but couldn´t catch as many waves as with my longboard. Guess will stick to it, learning to catch more waves, learning to turn - just the basics but the basics good. Sometimes I´m frustrated, two hours in the water just one wave ridden - but I guess everyone knows that feeling how starts especially at my age. But most of the time I just enjoy being in the water, watching the waves breaking, watching experienced surfers doing their moves. I know that I need a lot of practice, a lot of patience and maybe a better-suited board. But all comes in time. Right now I´m in Moroc, reef break in the south - not the ideal place to practise the basics but good for becoming more confident when its head-high ;=). But the next surfing destination will be some beach break and warm water and maybe a bigger board. Need more time in the beginner section
Cheers David
