Surfing Waves

Hello, I'm new to surfing and looking for some help.

I've had a few lessons and jumped straight in and purchased a second hand 8ft mini mal to get going on.

The problem is I live near Bury St Edmunds so the coast is a bit of a drive. I can get to Cromer/East Runton once a month and Suffolk quite easy. As a solo new surfer I'm nervous of going in on my own at a coast I don't know and understand. I'm looking for a safe place to catch 2-3ft waves with parking and other surfers around so I don't get lost out at sea.

I may try east runton on Wednesday late afternoon.

Any thoughts would be great.

I've seen a few people surf at Southwold between the sections of groynes.
Last weekend I was at Walberswick and there were a handful of opportunists out in the water there. Both those beaches would be about an hour or so from you. Good luck.

Hi Steven, how are you getting on with your surfing?

I live in Luton these days so now everywhere with waves is a bit of a road trip... I tried Norfolk for the first time a few weeks ago and had a decent session at East Runton. I'm not sure how often the waves hit that coast though, are you getting much?

Cromer was my home break for 3-4 years. As long as you get 2 feet swell and at 7 second interval and no wind. It is very good on a longboard. You want to surf 1.5 hour before and after highest tide. At high tide you can go to the right jetties closest to the place where they drag the boat down.

hi, there is a facebook group called east anglian surf buddies. friendly lots of advice on spots and meet-ups. i am not great (50 years old, bad legs, fall off a lot) but have been going to mundesley every few weeks on a Wednesday. you can park behind the cafe, short walk and with the right wind great 2-3ft. i had an excellent surf there in October with my daughter. At some times there can be quite a bit of a pull along the coast. also at cromer pier there is a surf school they normally go in a low tide there.
