Surfing Waves

Hi im new. I have never surfed before. I have been paddle boarding. I have committed to learn how to surf this summer down in Charleston, SC. What surfboard should i get? I dont want a long board.

Paddle boarding, have you only done it on flat water or have you ventured into the surf?
You want to ride a short board, OK, what do you weigh? How tall are you? Oh and how old, many of the answers will use that information to give you advice!

I'm curious as to why you don't want a longboard.

Im 17 years old and im 5'9 and weigh 132lbs. I dont want a long board cause it wouldn't fit in my car and I know they are easier to learn on but im just not crazy about them.

Roof racks, a board that suits or whatever fits in your car, drive up to the surf shop try a number of boards.
The one that fits inside the car without getting dinged is the right one
