Couple more lessons... buy board... become obsessed with surf forecasts... surf every weekend... become more obsessed with surfing... surf every day... buy a new board... surf some more... quit job... move to somewhere warm and sunny... surf in boardies every day... buy another new board... get barrelled in warm water wearing boardies... repeat last stage again and again.
Easy.

from my limited experience, 12-16 months surfing every month or 2, seems like the only thing you need is experience, a few tips from here or a surf pro, and lots of time in the water:-) its a great sport where you can get better by behaving like a kid for a few hours a day playing in the ocean

Just to be clear on this.
Surf more!
Glad you're enjoying it, hope you keep on going. Once the bug bites then you are in for life!
Read this forum, a lot, ask questions of the many experienced surfers here, but mostly just get in the water and have fun!
Welcome to the forum and welcome to the waves.

Can anyone recommend good spots in Devon for beginners?

Westward Ho! is a pretty decent spot, and Saunton Sands is one of the most well known spots, dominated by longboarders.
You are highly placed for many good breaks as you are a lot closer to Cornwall than the rest of us!
I have found this book to be very helpful:
