Hello,
I'm new here (obviously) but old to surfing. It's been ten years since I surfed due to an ongoing injury but am looking to sell my shortboards and get back into it with a long board.
I learned to surf at 8 or 9 years old with my father and got years of enjoyment from the waves surfing with my dad then later friends and girlfriend in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, North Spain and West France. Got my boards from the loft last night with a view to selling them and it brought back many happy memories. Am planning a return to surfing and hopefully to get my son into it like my father did for me.

Welcome back! I would wait for the waves to get good, so you have a great experience getting back in the water. You don't want your first session back to be in wind blown junk surf.

I generally used to surf in this country (U.K) from November through to April and go to France/Spain for the summer, its a 5 hour drive to good spots from London and often a wasted journey in the summer.
I reckon I'm going to have a shock getting back in the winter Atlantic again

Yup . . .

It's fine through summer into spring though

so don't worry . . . just take a 2litre bottle of hot water with you in the car or whatever to pour over your hands / feet if they are cold when you come to change back out of your wetsuit.

I have one memory that I think will stick with me forever. Surfing Polzeath in February in the snow, it wouldn't have been so bad but I had change in the car park into an already wet wetsuit that had been in the car all night and was almost frozen.
I could have done with a few bottles of hot water then

Hey Adam,
A bit like yourself, I've only just got back in the water after some years out due to injury and lack of time.
I was riding a shortboard in the good old days, but purchased a 10'2 single fin to get back into it last year with my increased girth and reduced fitness.
Proper loving it again now despite the winter chill setting in... I like Esoncars idea of the hot water, however I also put my suit in hot water before I put it on and I find it stays warm in the water that little bit longer... Mmmm toasty!!
