i'm stoked to be a part of this forum...! i've already learned bunches and can't wait to get back into the water 8)

i'm 23, f, from West Los Angeles.

my first experience surfing was learning from a native Hawaiian, who'd been surfing his whole life, at Waikiki. Surfing captured me from that day on.

I was thrashed last weekend at Venice Beach...couldn't even stay on my board when I was paddling out and met breaking waves, and the moment i'd push up when I thought I was getting a wave, i'd fall off. iwhile i am a kook, but is venice surf especially inconsistent and lacking clean waves?

anyway, can't wait till saturday! i'll be trying to conquer venice beach again (unless I get other suggestions) :)

Haha, yah San Diego is pretty nice, its usually smaller here during summer though, their usually around 2,3, or 4 feet with an occasioanl 5 footer. But it has its bigger days to, just not so often

Now winter in San Diego thats when the bigger sets roll in :P

2-3 feet waves nice enough for me right now...i'm as kook as kook can get :-P if you don't mind me asking btw...if i were to visit SD, where would be the place for me to be heading out to? i've heard things of Del Mar, but seeing that you're a local, where's the place for starters? thanks! ;)

I dont know about Del Mar ,never surfed there, but i would definatley recommend Mission Beach or Pacific Beach, they usually have really nice waves that range around 2, 3 or 4 feet, and can get a little bigger or smaller depending on the time or day. Also if you go, go either early in the morning (7 am) or later in the evening (around 4:30 pm) because if you go in the middle of the day it gets way to over crowded because of the tourists. Another good beach is Imperial Beach, its way down south, by the border of Mexico. The reason i like this beach is that you can go surf there anytime of day really, because there are alot LESS tourists. More locals really, so you have alot more beach to yourself. The waves at Imperial Beach however do usually get BIGGER and heavier than those of Mission and Pacific Beach. And there is also La Jolla Shores which offers the smallest waves of all, and is also the most crowded of all the beaches. I wouldnt reccomend it, because even though the waves are small and good for a beginner, it just gets way to over crowded. If you do go there it is a MUST that you go later in the evening (5 pm) or it will be way to overcrowded, however even in the evenings it is still a bit to crowded for my liking. All in all, i would recommend going to Mission Beach either early morning or later evening, that would probably be your best bet from my knowlege.

Hope that Helps :D

Ahh, only just found this thread. Better late than never I suppose!

Hey all, I'm a 17 year old lass from Swansea...I'm in some ways a noob as I'm getting into the sport properly now.

For a good few years I've been sponging/learning with a friend of mine and loved it from the start, but I've never had the opportunity to get in into it properly due to spending a lot of my spare time mountain biking and racing competitively. Now that I have my own means of transport and much more free time, I'm 'living the dream' to some extent.

Anyway, I'm enjoying it and I'm getting out as much as possible, though at the moment I'm taking a break due to a cracked toe. Nevermind!

Nice to speak to you all!
