First board

I'm 5' 9'' 140 pounds and i surfed once before on my buddies board and im thinking of getting my own. I want to get a shortboard instead of starting with a longboard but dont know wat size or brand to get. Any Advice?

Get a cheap 2nd hand big board to learn oon then once you can surf think about dropping down to a shortboard unless your planning to learn in powerful surf (which i also don't recomend) or unless your going to be spending 5hrs a day every day in the sea in which case i'd still say get a longer board.
