Hi all,

Is it true that a epoxy board is 20% lighter and more bouyant than a custom? i have been told if i get a 7'6 epoxy it will be like having a 7'10- 8'0 custom when it comes to paddling/riding and stability, but be cheaper and stronger. i have read in past threds that the strenght is true but not found info on the rest.

I understand you can have a custom board made to suit your needs, but im talking about those you can buy mass made ie circle one and take off etc

is this all true or just sales talk?

A 'proper' epoxy board, like a surftech is much lighter than a similar sized custom and much stronger. So, yes, it'll give you a bit more float than a custom.

Paddling is perhaps slightly easier, but it'll make little or no difference to stability once you're up and riding. Opinions differ, but in my experience, my epoxy is less stable than a custom as it doesnt handle chop very well.

Lastly, they wont be cheaper. To get the advantages, you need to spend the cash. A cheap epoxy (ie a pop out) will be heavy and rubbish compared to a custom board.

does anyone think this is a good board deal ? i thought it might have been as it is delivery included + the extras! especially with the delivery costs on sites like ebay!

Also do you think this board is best or the 7'10?

Seems like quite a nice beginners board.
You could get away with the 7'6, althugh the 7'10 will be a lot easier to start with. Are you a complete beginner or have you had a go before?

Ive not ridden a circle one board, so I may be wrong, but my understanding is that they're definitely a beginners board and not all that light. But a really light epoxy board can be a bit of a handful to be honest, particularly if you're learning in less than perfect conditions.

So, all in all, that probably wouldnt be a bad choice and the price seems okay.

Am a complete begginer really, i have hired a couple of times and had no probs catching my first few waves on a bic 8'4 magnum.

That was down putsbrough on a sunny day thou! but i am based in newcastle now and Tynemouth is closest for me, bit of a difference in temperature!!!!

Definatly caught a tast for surfing thou and want to get in the water as often as i can, work permitting of course!
