Don't let the exchange rate fool ya. I used to get sucked in by exchange rates all the time.

But there's a local economy effect so it might just be typical (or slightly above).

Maybe some Poms on here could tell us if they think that's too much for a high-perf custom fish.

Honest question for the Brits - how much would you pay for a "normal" high-perf custom fish (in pounds)? Then add some for the other factors (durability, aesthetics, etc).

I was thinking it might be like beer around the world.

I pay around AU$4.00 for a pint of decent beer in a decent bar in the CBD here. Yet a pint in London is around £3.00, last I heard, which is a ridiculous AU$7.07 here! That's about in the ballpark for a similar beer in New York last I heard (about US$5.99). At least that's not as bad as a lot of places in Italy where 5 Euros a pint isn't uncommon ($AU7.94, £3.37 or US$6.74).

See? Exchange rate doesn't necessarily mean as much locally as you might think. Sometimes local economy and cost of living is more important.

And then again £550 might be way too high

£400 - tops.

Exchange rate doesn't really seem to come into play.. or, let me put it this way.. Typically, if something costs $5 in the states, it's the same in England, just pounds instead.

Now, because of exchange rates, this means that in England, for an American traveling, it costs $10. But, back in the 90's, this was flipped the other way, so that it would have been only $2.50.

But through the years, prices stay fairly consistent.. it's the exchange rates that throw you for a loop.

So, for a fish, 550 pounds doesn't seem completely out of the ballpark, although $1100 does. By the same token, you Brits can come over to the states and basically buy up iPods, computers and clothes for half-price what you'd pay at home for the same exact stuff.

For a balsa board you're not too far off the mark.
I have to say, though, that there is no way I'd pay that for it through ebay!!!
That is one hell of a beautiful board and if I could afford it I'd definitely pay that for it.
Problem is I need to save for Oz!

Well, well. I guess Mark wasn't off his nut with that price.
