I was just at Costco (bulk/warehouse type store) the other day and saw they were selling surfboards for $299. Discription said they were hand-shaped, then I looked at the fine print....Made in China

That just seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me, I got a laugh out of it. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time I have seen boards at Costco outside of Hawaii, and I think the ones they have in Hawaii are made somewhere in the US.

Well they hand shape a board, then scan the exact dimensions into a computer. Then let the machines go to town on blanks.
Ya, Costco has everything. Though it is randomly that they will have it. Like you can go there and find surfboards one week, and once they are sold, they wont have any for a year.....

I think they're blanked in China and then glassed in the States.
I imagine they're probably an OK deal if you're deciding between that and a NSP or spongetop. I saw them last summer to, and just taking a quick scan I couldn't notice anything horribly wrong with them.
