Bike rack

Postby boardofwork » Thu Apr 12, 2007 8:28 pm

Hi all! I'm relatively new to surfing having started on a recent trip to Australia.

I live near the coast and i'm a keen cyclist so was wondering if anyone knew where i could get a rack to carry my board on my bike in the UK? I saw loads of people using them in Oz and think they are a great idea for short trips but can't find them anywhere here! Any ideas?

My board is a 6'5" shortboard so shouldn't be too much to handle on a bike as long as it's not blowing a gale!

Thanks Miamisurfer. Thats exactly what i'm after, but that website charges a fortune for delivery to the UK. Anyone seen anything similar over here? I guess it's unlikely as the majority of Brits seem to have a general hatred for bikes if the rider is over the age of 10!

Search this site/forum for racks, I believe someone at one time posted how to make your own or a link to a site that explains how to make your own out of pvc pipe.

Hi SDCali. Can you be a bit more specific? Before i posted i tried searching on bike rack and it turned up every single post with the words 'bike' or 'rack'!! You'd be surprised how many there are! If anyone can help i would be extremely grateful. I'm pretty handy when it comes to woodwork, but welding isn't really my thing so ideally i'd like to just buy the rack somewhere, but if there is a fairly easy way to make one that would be great.

If there are no racks of that style available at a reasonable price in the UK, does anyone know of a mass-produced trailer that could be adapted? I know you can get them for canoes, but they are huge and designed to carry quite a weight so would be a bit O.T.T. for a board!

Also, as i seem to have come up against such a big brick wall here, is there anyone else who would be interested if i were to find some sort of board transport for a bike in the UK or is it just something that people steer clear of here?

Pleased to see the positive response! I will try to find something or maybe even make something!

Ideas always welcome?!?!?!

Oh. BTW I surf a 6'5" gunther rohn board down on the south coast. I suck and freely admit it, but soon i'll be good I am determined!!

Hey you can also make one for yourself easily, here is a great video showing how to do it https://vimeo.com/48228711 or you can buy it online in sites such as (advertising url removed) but the cheapest is to make it yourself.
