Surfing Waves

I am fairly new to surfing and need some information on FCS fins. I am to the point where I can pop up and make a bottom turn but thats about it for now. I switched from an 8' fun shape to a 7'4" thruster about 2 months ago and it's a little squirly for me. It has a tri-fin FCS setup on it and I was trying to see which FCS set of fins would give me the best stability.

Any information would be great....

You won't be able to notice a difference between fins at this stage. The main stability factors in a board are in the board's shape and design. Fins just enhance the qualities of the board. So if you don't know the board very well, you won't be able to tell what a set of new fins would do for you.

Dont care, love it, next wipeout I have (tomorrow), I'll be describing it as 'squirly'

As the man said, you wont notice a huge difference at this stage. You could possiblly slow things down a touch by getting some ever so slightly larger fins, but the amount it would cost wouldnt match the benefit you'd gain.

Just keep on practising....

im guessing you mean squirrelly not squirly? at 7ft4 id say it probably is still a funboard shape not a thruster? and so should be fairly stable on its own. Is it much thinner than your old board (thinner not narrower)?

Basically whats happened is youve moved to a shorter lighter board which is less forgiving of those little wobbles your big plank was letting you get away with and thats why it feels unstable, changing fins wont make any difference it just takes practice and soon enough you have ironed out those wobbles and youll find it stable as.

Then you get to move to a sub 7' board and go through the whole wobbling experience all over again

exactly, you wont notice any difference with the set up unless you take one of the fins out, say like the middle fin..try it, it's fun
