need a little info on wetties

Postby robboxedit » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:42 pm

Hey guys/gals. first post here and love the site. a TON of info here, its great. im just picking up surfing and looking for a wetsuit (still not sure if i want a shortie (which ive used a couple times)or a full (which i havent tried yet), but anyway...). in looking for a good deal of course, and on-line ive come across some that dont necessarily indicate if they are intended for surfing or for diving. my question is...can someone fill me in on a little wetsuit 101? is there a difference between these or are they more or less interchangable?

any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks
rob

They are not inter changeable. This time of year in southern California you need a full suite. There are a variety to choose from. I prefer the super strtch becase it allows me not to tire out as quickly. You will also need to pay attention to the seems. how are they stiched are they sealed and are they taped. Sealing and taped keep the water from leaking in at the seams. Does it have a back flush system. ie a focket that goes over your head and catches the water that rushes down your back before it ever gets to you. Thickness is also a key element. Are you going with a 3/2 a 4/3 ect. I personaly have a couple of each. I hate getting into a wet wet suite.

Go into a shop or two and try some on.
