Hey I wanna take up surfing in the summer to give me something to do and thought about teaching myself to surf! What board would you guys reccommend for a first timer?! Ive read somewhere that a malibu or something would be the best bet, is that true? Ive been looking online for boards and have come across the 'Bic 7'3" Wahine Mini Mal' which looks like a beginners board and it even says its the best board for the first time board owner...am I better off getting this one? Thanks Kayleigh :)

Welcome,

Bic boards are great for beginers, shouldnt have many problems with one.
i would suggest taking a lesson or two , just to learn the basics !
Best of luck !

:woot:  :woot:

A newbie and we dont have to go through the 'you dont need a shortboard yet' phase!

Yes, those are perfect first boards. Depends on your size and weight though - if you're tall/heavy you might need the 7'6 but if you're average girl sized or smaller then the 7'3 is spot on. :D

Perfect to learn on, get a feel for it, and then in a year or two you can sell them for almost the same price as you bought it and buy a custom when you know what you're doing.

Oh, and welcome 8)

Surfing - It wont 'give you something to do'... it'll suck away your entire life, make you utterly irrational, make you spend your time boring friends' socks off by telling them about pressure charts, and it'll make you smell

Oh, and dont wait til summer - get in the water in winter/spring while there's still waves.

I'd go with that....I've got a Bic 7'9 and though I love it to bits it's probably a bit too big, I maybe could've done with getting a slightly smaller one.

(To my board: if you read that, i'm sorry, i didn't mean a word of it, you're perfect as you are and I wouldn't change you for the world! Well, not til I'm a lot better anyway! )
