Ding on a new board (posted by figchef)

Hello all...Its my first time here, and I\'m a little nervous....

I just got my first board 2 days ago...a Challenger 6\'10 funboard.

so im an ass, and dinged the board in the doorway. it bruised the clear-coat. its not a dip, and doesnt indent, just kinda turned it white. should I buy ding repair epoxy, or will it be ok? its on the nose end, probably 3 inches from the tip, if the ruler was going right down the middle of the board. its 1/2 the size of a pencil eraser. im so mad =(

im sure plenty more will come, but i dont know about this stuff...im freakin!

what do ya think?

I like the board, and it really sucks you hit it on the door.

Thanks! I love it, especially since my favorite color is green. yeah, i'll never do that again. Whats the deal with Challenger boards? Are they a reputable company? I cant find much online about them, and no one sells them....

Im about to order a da kine bag right now! What are some of the more reasonably priced shops online?

Ive been researching fixing dings myself, and feel confident I can do it. What are the better d.i.y. kits to buy, and where?

Also, how is everyones opinion on deck grips/foot pads? I like the idea, but would rather not put it on(though, mrs palmers makes a perfect green and white one)....it is less necessary on my type of board?

dam that suks, its not a bad ding at all, i think the epoxy glue should repair it fine but if you want to be 100% safe get it repaired proffessionally.

No NO NO NO.

Do NOT use epoxy glue.

I can see the SILMAR logo from here - it's a poly board.

The ding cracked the fiberglass. What you need to do is dig out the crushed fiberglass carefully with a knife so it's a nice smooth hole.

Sand around the area with some 120 or 180 paper - only about 1/8 )1/4 inch at most) away from the ding.

Get some sun-curing resin and follow the directions on the tube. It's a small enough ding that it doesn't need a full effort of mixing glass and all that.

Sun-cure stuff should work fine. Just take your time, get any air bubbles out, and use some clear plastic like a piece of ziplock bag. Do the repair in the shade, then move it to the sun, and give it enough time to cure properly. Don't sand it afterwards. Just make sure you get it smooth with the clear plastic.
