Anyone give me a quick bit of advice on a suitable board for my 11 year old daughter? She's hooked on surfing but in reality she'll only get near the Devon/Cornish coast for 3-4 weeks a year-maybe a bit more. She's a lightweight at around 37kg.

I've been advised to go for an NSP 6'4" fish as a board that will last her a good few years, bearing in mind she'll probably be in the whitewater most of the time-Good advice or not?

No. Rubbish advice in fact

The NSP fish is quite heavy for its size, and fishes are rubbish in whitewater - they're very loose (ie wobbly) and buck around on whitewater all over the place, so she'll get thrown off all the time :?

Go for a small mini-mal - 7ft or less, a BIC or NSP wont cost too much and they're tough as old boots so wont mind being run into the sand every now and then, and the mini-mal shape means lots of volume and perfect for surfing in the white stuff.

Give it a couple of years and she'll be out back putting us all to shame

Isnt a 7 foot board massive for a small girl??

I took my two nephews (10 and 11) surfing and they were standing on a 6'2 straight away.

If it was my kid and she weighed 37 kg, I'd give her a shortboard.

It would be the same as an adult on a mini mal!!

it might be massive, but they dont ahve as good balance( i think), if they dont surf that much, they want something to have fun on, and a 7ft would be good.

i think something like my 6'8 that i brought to saunton would be perfect. its a funshape i guess. its basically a thick fat shortboard with loads of volume but still nice n manoeverable so should be pretty good. i think you should look around for something like that.

have a look at this board
