storing wetsuits

Postby Gando » Sun Jul 30, 2006 8:02 pm

Hi there. I've only just bought my first wetsuit. Aw.... :D Having caught the surfing bug.
I was told to store it in a dark place, hanging on a plastic hanger and to keep it wet. However, as it has dried already could I not just roll it up and pop it in a container at the bottom of my wardrobe until next time I go out? Seems better plan than keeping it in a shed with the spiders but I could be wrong!?
Just wondered what everyone else does?
Thanks!

To keep it wet??

Really?? :?

I don't keep mine wet, and I don't know anyone else that does either...
The plastic hanger is fine, keep it flat if you're not using it for ages, and rinse it out after each surf.

But, you don't need to keep it for a months in a bucket filled with dirty old water and dead flies!!

doesnt need to be kept wet. just make sure it on a nice wide hanger like you'd get with a suit jacket or something so that it doesnt start cutting through the neoprene.

Is there anything to be gained by hanging it up as opposed to rolling it up?

Glad it doesn't have to be kept wet though- that just would've been a nightmare! :?

there is a longer discussion on this topic in the surfing hardware section, as I asked this question a month or 2 ago.

Really, dont roll it up, some of the creases in it will never come out, really not a good idea.

2 things that increase the life of your wetsuit.
- Wash it out properly
- Hang it in a shady place to dry. sunlight and rubber are not freinds. Your suit gets enough sun exposure while you surfing no need to add to it by leaving your suit out in the sun for hours

Keep well
