Board weight?

Hi. I'm thinking about buting a new board. I really like the shape and size etc, but it seems quite a bit heavier than other boards.

Presumably it just means it has had a strong glass job and will be more durable...

but can someone inform me how this will affect performance?

Thanx, Sammo

It depends how much heavier the board is as to how much the performance will be affected.

Are all boards brand new and professionally made customs? In which case there probs isn't much weight difference - assuming similar dimensions obviously.
If second hand board could be water logged so steer clear.

The only board I used recently which sucked cos it was too heavy was an NSP Fish thing - try picking one up and then you'll see what too heavy is!

Also to certain degree it depends upon what type of board it is. For example my magic carpet is quite heavy but that makes it awesome for gliding across less steep sections of wave due to the extra momentum it has because of it's weight. It's a very cruisy style easy ride that's really enjoyable. Also it makes it possible to catch some waves you think you'd never catch. Start paddling early get that board speed up and the momentum just carries you onto that wave.
But generally heavier boards probably isn't the best.

Only a limpwrist would say that. . . . too heavy is when you can't carry it to the beach at all. . .
