Advice on gloves

Postby bodyboarder » Wed May 31, 2006 4:49 pm

I bodyboard in Cornwall in the summer but now have arthritis in the fingers of both hands.Would the gloves normally used in winter with wetsuits help keep my fingers warm & supple? I have never used a wetsuit as I only bodyboard in summer.I don't want to wear a suit as don't need it in summer so I realise I will look strange with just the gloves on but if they work & keep me surfing who cares!!!!!!!What sort of glove would be best? I'm female not that will make any difference to the type of glove!!!!!!!! Thanks for any advice .

Go for a pair of mitts hands down!

Its like a sauna for your hands warm, soft and well flexable. Avalabkle from and good surf/wetsuit store.

Well, they'll help keep your hands warm,
But they can be quite restrictive so they might not help them stay supple, and the hands can get quite cold even in gloves if they're not moving.
You might be better off getting a full wettie as the hands stay warmer if you're core is warm.

As for shapes - nah, they're all the same and its only the size that'll make a difference. And thickness - usually they're around 3mm but you can get thick (too thick, in my opinion) 5mm+ gloves, or thin 2mm summer gloves.

Only one way to find out - give it a go :D

:) Thanks for that! Mittens it is then! I assume I will be able to buy them in July when I go to Cornwall even though they are a winter item! We stay near Newquay so I assume if I can't get them there then it would have to be online!
