Snapped leashes and pulled out leash plugs

Has anyone experienced any of these bummers?

My first board was a NSP mini-mal and the leash I used was a second hand Bullys which snapped at the swivel after about a year of quite heavy use. I nosed dived on a head-high bomb and Twang! it just went and the board rode on its own all the way to the beach. I felt a bit pannicked because my arms were really tired at that point and thought for a while I wasn't going to make the distance back to the shore. The extra buoyancy from the wetsuit seemed to make the swim back easier tho and I made it back ok in the end. Got a replacement quality leash the next day.

I always thought that those leash plugs are designed pretty flimsy and one of those snapping or getting pulled out would be more likely than a snapped leash which has a fair amount of elasticity. How are plugs glassed in? - is there usually any special strenghtening built in at that point?

Anyone want to share any similar experiences of equipment failure?

i snapped a leash a few times, the leash will go before the plug on the board.
Ive also had a mate snap a leash and rode right in to the beach to get hid board for him while he struggled to swim in after it- useful to have someone with you when it happens.
For the quickest way to get in after your lost board - learn to bodysurf

I've broken off leash loops--but that's a different thing...sorta. But the leash loops I have broken off were homemade experiments, with bad resin that probably didn't have time to fully cure. So yeah...mix a 30 pound board with a bad leash loop and it's gonna break!

I've had reasonably good luck with plugs, but the only plugs I have used is on my thruster, which weighs in at about 6-8 pounds with wax and fins.

ive had my leesh loop come off. The wave was pretty big and just ripped the board away off my leesh. Looked a bit stupid swimming all the way back to the beach to get it.
Its not the same thing though, I havent yet snapped a leesh or plug.
