Surfing Waves

I've seen this secondhand board for sale which I really like the shape of but its got one of those cheesy 'flame-effect' spray jobs which kinda puts me off.

Is it possible (and not too expensive!) to get a new spray job to cover up the old one?

Really depends. Was it done by the shaper, or during the shaping, or was it after market done in someones back yard?

They can airbrush directly to a blank, directly to the lam, or directly to the hot coat. If its on the hot coat, it might come off...be tough though.

Wet sanding is the best I can tell you. Soft pad with a 600 grit pad and a garden hose. No electric sanders while wet sanding!! must use air!!

just get some car paint from halfords, a nice dark colour like black and spray the whole thing up.

Black paint is going to raise the temperature beneath the glass by close to 30 degrees. In a PU/PE or epoxy board, it could easily delaminate on a hot day....or explode.

That's the problem with carbon fiber, and people will paint them white.

hmm, didnt think of that, my board is half dark green and gets pretty hot if left out in the sun, although i have seen a black surfboard before.
So spray it white? might need a few coats to cover up the graphics tho.
Also ive heard the plasti-cote spray paint you can buy in DIY stores works well on surfboards.

Oh yeah, important note. Spray it with Clear Acrylic Spray to seal it once you're done.
