SURBOARDS IN CALIFORNIA

Postby Newsurfer79 » Mon Feb 13, 2006 5:13 pm

Hi,
I am going on a 3 week trip to california (LA County and southwards) I am not taking any of my boards with me as I am planning on buying some when I am out there...

Anyone have any info or advice on where to buy...??? I will be staying in the LA Area for the first week and then moving on to San Diego and those places.

I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know !!!
Cheers...

When I went there I just got a 1 month fly-drive, landed at LAX then drove as directly to the beach as possible and ended up at Hermosa Beach, then down to San Diego.
I stayed at the Sea Sprite Motel right on the beach and very near surf shop called Pier Surf (er just by the pier!).
I bought a second hand board (6'2" G&S, lovely board, had it for years until it died) - can't remember where I bought it but there's loads of surf shops around, I think the most local factory at the time was Becker Surfboards in Malibu.
But this was '90 so probs loads different now.
It is a really good surf pilgrimage tho :D .

ZJ boarding house and Horizons West are both on Main St. in Santa Monica. There is also a nice selection at the Rip Curl store at the Santa Monica 3rd street promenade. Of course if you go south of LA into orange county there are more shops, like Frog House etc, but you should be able to find something at the shops in LA. They have used boards too.
