Need some help choosing new FCS Fins...

Hi all,

I have already read some previous topics about fins in the forum, but none have all the info that I need so here goes another Fin post...

I just bought a new board with the following dimensions:

Size - 6'0
Nose - 11' 1/2"
Width - 19' 1/4"
Tail - 14' 3/8" Squash
Thickness - 2' 1/2"
Single Concave
Medium rocker

This is based on a template that I have tried out before and it's great for me. I'm 5'6" with 78Kg.

I have mostly used fixed fins but for the last two years have been using some speedfins in a 6'5" that I have for bigger surf and they work great.

Now, this new board has a FCS setup and I have read some different opinions about their fins, I have a more power surf approach with snaps, cutbacks, controlled tailslides and strong turns, not really into aerials and the over-slides.

I surf mostly on shoulder to overhead and occasionaly doubleoverhead surf in the beachbrakes in Rio, but travel often to reefbrakes like Indo (where the 6'5" with speedfins rocked in Grajagan) I was hyped into buying the H-2, what's your opinion guys ?

Thx

Rune

get the new material (m-10?) or glass flex or something, they'll work better for the power you're looking for. Look at the GAM, G-5000, red tip, maybe the larg h2's for sides.

you can try the 'fin picker' on the fcs site, but all it gives you is carbons, h2's and whatever expensive fin they have for any setup really...

Can't relly go wrong with G5 or YU, but looking at your size, I'd go for G3000. After a little accident I lost my G5's a while ago, and the only fins I could find around where I was at the time, was G3000. Good fun.

I think there is a new version out, the G3000X. Apparently for more powerful surf.

The options are close to endless, and I don't think it'll matter too much for a beginner.

Thx for the replies...

Yeah I'll probably check out the new glass fiber ones and if I still have the cash try the H-2's for smaller surf...

Regarding the FCS site the fin selector is a joke, it gives you me the H-2 always with different answers... Or the next expensive in the line...

Oslo, thx for the answers man but I am far from a beginner, have been surfing for 14yrs and traveled to some great reefbreaks but always used fixed fins in my boards only varying the angles and positioning of the fins, that's why I needed some feedback on the removable fins.

Take care !
