Buying A Board

Postby x.hands__down.x » Wed Jan 04, 2006 8:36 am

I'm looking into buying my first board sometime in the near future. I'm a complete beginner and I'm not sure what to ask to look at at the shops. From what I've read it looks like i need something reasonably long, thick and stable. A longboard? I way around 65 kg and I'm approximately 166 cm tall. Any help is appreciated. Sorry, i realise i might have posted this int he wrong forum by accident.

Hey bro, it depens alot on where you are going to be surfing.... when i started i was in Long Island, NY so the only option was a longboard, there alot of fun but it gets old fast and soon your gona want to be able to pull some tight moves...which just cant happen on a longboard. You should grab a fun board, its like a longboard but tri fin, smaller and more minuverable. I have met some people that learned on fish style boards on mush but that is gona take alot of patience...there not as stable so there hard to learn on. Go to a rental place and try out a longboard, a fun, fish and see what you can handle. I really dont recomend starting out on a shortboard, there alot more work to paddle, catch waves and such, it will probably discourage you. Also start out on small days, dont grab a board and jump into some chest to head or your gona be in some trouble. Goodluck.
