Sharp / Scratchy Rails Surflite

Hi there!

I bought a 2nd hand test tube last year in winter and I've been having some fun on it, but now I want to wear a springsuit but the material of the rails is so sharp, it's really painful after 30 mins. I've tried to cut the sharp bits off with a razor blade, and put some wax on it, but it's not making a difference.

Any suggestions on how to make it smoother? Would gorilla tape or clear duct tape be a good option?

As geezer said sandpaper, but then also those clear varnishes that people use to protect surfboard art might help you after you have sanded it out maybe? Never heard of this issue before so not 100% sure what you do!

I emailed surflite and it’s a common issue with the older models, they didn’t really give a solution either haha

Actually it makes it worse as the pressed layers get separated when you go over it.

Is there any downside to taping the rails?

That dosen’t sound good! I use tape on my board whilst I wait for sun to let me repair my boards and haven’t had too many issues using it, except that if the waves are overhead or bigger ish any tape on your rail gets ripped straight off, when it’s smaller it has worked fine for me however this is just covering dings, taping your whole rails is worth a try but you need strong tape, and if you see it start to peel take it off and bin it. Care for the ocean and it will care for you!

If this doesn’t work might be worth investing in a long sleeve spring suit, or a long sleeve rashie to put underneath your spring suit as protection for your arms

….or a new board.

I bet you could take it to a ding repIr and they’d sort it for you. I sand boards all the time; med coarse then fine. Should be ok.

How about laying down a hot glue line to make the transition less abrupt ?
