7S double down

Postby Robertalanpepe » Wed Jun 15, 2022 11:02 pm

I ordered a 7S double down 6’2 from the surf station in st Augustine Florida the board arrived with a substantial tail ding which I had fixed by a local shop and the surf station reimbursed me for the repair plus gave me 50 bucks. So I get the board back and I’m stoked next night putting a leash, traction pad, fins on it. Upon putting the front two fins on it is obvious the fins are out of alignment in the toe in angle measured it was 5/16 different leading edge root and 3/16 off at the trailing edges. The Surf station is not going to do crap about it and buttheads at GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES are not returning my emails. I am pissed I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING ANYTHING FROM GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES the shape looks good but it a roll of the dice if you get a correctly glassed board evidently. THANKS ASSHOLES

I haven’t ridden it yet, the surf station says call global surf industries
and gsi says the surf station is responsible, so they are blaming each other - neither is going to do
crap to address the problem. I took it back to the local shaper who fixed the tail ding and he
seemed to think it wasn’t going to make any difference. Im not buying it BUT NEITHER IS GOING TO BACK UP THEIR PRODUCT so I guess I’m gonna ride it and see how jacked up it is. Any opinions on how this will effect the boards performance? If it causes any weirdness next time there are waves guess I’ll trade it and eat a prob 500$ loss. I WILL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES AGAIN. The pic is with fins in you can see two front fins are not aligned

was the repair where the fins are? any pics? did the repair place repair the finbox? did you order the board through the shop and the shop sold you the board with a ding? As soon as you saw it you should have said, oh na I don't want that board I want a brand new board not a repaired board.

when I order a custom, I always like to be there when they take out of box, not always possible but I'm not paying top dollar for a damaged board, thats not good enough service

I'm just thinking loud here, but won't the board have a slight more drag on the right side? If you lay prone on your board paddling for a wave, it would wan't to drag a little bit to the right? Giving the board a bigger force towards right turns? So many factors to think about. It might benefit your backhand or forehand surfing (or vice versa). Are you goofy or regular? Do you surf on rail? It might be easier to shift from one rail to the other, and harder the other way. Try it, and if it does'nt work maby let a friend with opposite stance try it. Maby it's your magic board:-)

I don't think it will make a noticeable difference, even if it did, you would probably unconsciously learn how to compensate for the difference. Shapers will intentionally make asymmetrical boards for a variety of reasons. You could play around using different fin shapes and sizes on either side of the board. Might be fun to experiment.
