Hi,

have a bit of an issue, I have recently spray painted my board carbon black with the hope of adding white decals.

Dont know if I am using the wrong type of rice paper but when putting resin/ fibreglass on it but I had the following problems:

.) There is a visible border around the decal I guess due to the thickness of the paper? (After laminating)
.) The black background on the decal is not the same colour as the board (its abit grey), this makes it super noticeable
.) I am using a rather old printer (Canon Pixma MG3052 Colour Inkjet ) - unsure what the issue is though- is it the rice paper, the printer or something else

Any recommendations?

Couple of answers for you.

Firstly, the boarder not printed needs to be trimmed to the image, on black decal tissue can show through against the black. You can try soaking it more with resin but I usually trim back the excess tissue on darker tints.

Secondly the printer version will never be black enough to match or be similar too the colour of the board. You might want to consider screen printing the decal or having it done for you, not hugely expensive but you'll never get the colour dark enough with a printer.

Hope this helps!

Is this related to your other post? I would sand slightly over the decal and reapply a thin layer just over the decal and a couple inches around it. I guess you don’t want to sand off the decal so be careful not to do that but smooth out the rest of the board by sanding away the excess resin
