How to see if wetsuit is too small

Hi to all,

I bought a wetsuit rip curl dawn patrol perf recently MS size checked carefully was fitting my size with the website tables but when I try it I have the feeling it is too small and too tight.

Seams seem to stretch particularly on the legs and especially annoying is that the crotch part is staying lower than my body instead of fitting with it, it's quite uncomfortable at this part. Apart from that I can wear it normally.

So my question from your experience do you think these are indicators that the wetsuit is too small for me? it will not last long especially the seams if too small so id prefer to return it

Cheers

I think Rip Curl runs smaller than usual. I have a few different types of their wetsuits and I always bump up a size on their sizing chart.. but they still seem kinda tight after getting them.
It sounds like yours is probably too small from the sounds of it. I think dont think the legs should be like that.. but maybe others can chime in too.

If the wetsuit is too small, wouldn't the crotch be running up high instead of hanging down low ? Because the distance from shoulder to crotch is too short.

In the shop, we have customers try on the wetsuit and then have them squat down and wrong their arms around their legs. Like doing a "cannon ball" into a pool. If you can't get into that ball position, it's too small.

You say it "feels too small and too tight", is that when you are actually surfing or just trying it on in the house ?

Maybe Im using the wrong term for 'crotch' i mean the part between legs, from inside ankle to hips.

I will try your advice with squat down and so on :-)

I tried it in the house not surfing with it. I would show if I could upload photos but I don't think there is an option for it in the post

1) is this your 1st fullsuit or you have own many others in the past ?

2) Does the MS you bought stand for Medium Short ? Maybe the “regular” Medium is better ?

3) although Dawn Patrol is their entry level model, it should still have 4 way stretch material. And it should be GBS ( glued blind stitched ) so the seems should be much stretchier than flat lock stitching.

1) I had a billabong one before M size tables were different but tried many wetsuit over the years as I was renting boards abroad.

2) you're right MS is medium short, the size tables were corresponding more with rip curl for my height and weight. maybe medium would be better there was not availability of this size at the time

3) yes it's GBS but it is really too small I guess wearing it will overused the seams quickly and quickly drop the durability of the wetsuit

cheers !

Have you tried pulling your wetsuit leg up like a stocking? It appears to be an issue.
The problem with wetsuits is that it is one size for lower and upper body.

I buy XL in rip curl, but it’s a sort of too tight for my upper body and too big for my lower body. I don’t think there’s any way to fix it.
As for classic suits (with tie, etc), I either order them or get different sizes for pants and jackets.

Easier not to wear one. More freedom of movement and you can enjoy the water on your skin. It ain't a watersport if you hide inside rubber.

I reckon it all depends on where you surf. It ain’t water sport if you get hypothermia which is a real thing in colder temps.

Only for girls. Some people seem to think shivering means hypothermia. Well guess what, normal body temp 37, shivering 35, death 20, so no big deal, You don't worry when you sweat, why worry when you shiver?

People who are scared of the cold amuse me. People who think nobody can get cold are idiots.

I brew my own. Maybe that's why I never get cold?
