7'3" egg with ...BIG flex fin?

Postby opelagos » Thu Feb 25, 2021 6:36 pm

Hi all,
I've been experimenting with the fin on my 7'3" single-fin egg, trying to see what feels best on a given day. Bracketing questions of my own still-growing ability (ahem) and conditions (2-3 ft beachbreak if we're lucky ;)): I felt a 7.5" fin was a bit gutless. 8" Captain Fin Sea Bee was fun but unremarkable. 8" Greenough Stage 6 felt fast and fun!

Anyway, now I'm curious to try this 10" Alkali flex fin I just got in it. Technically snagged the fin for my 9'6" but curious if it'll do double-duty. I know some folks like a long, narrow, heavily-raked fin in their (can I still use this term) midlength board...

Just curious to hear others' perspectives, deep dives on fin knowledge, etc. It'll be flat here for another couple days so looking for armchair research before I get to go test ; )

This is a good way to experiment , follow the Morning of The Earth evolution, 7’6” with a Greenough fin see what you get in your on wave positioning and hone your skills. jaffa approved

OP, will be interested in your experience. People seem to pair flex fins with hulls and haven't seen them with eggs.

The first fin shown had flex this one little flex, but note the hole at the base of the fin to attach your leash, which then was a surgical rubber tube with a nylon stretch limiting cord inside, guaranteeing the board came back at you at full speed , fin as a knife point and edge.
Blood in the water!

hey all-- thanks so much for yr replies, I'm only just seeing them (likely due to an issue with my notifications setting). the historical records are especially fascinating! honestly, I got really into surfing my 8'0 with a 2+1 set-up and the waves haven't been warranting the egg generally, so... further research still required ;)
