Surfing Waves

Hey. I was thinking of making my own fins at school, with general workshop materials, but not fibreglass
Has any1 got any ideas about how I would go about doing this?

Now, not meaning to be all negative or anything..... but.......

Fins are very precise bits of kits with respect to shape, size, stiffness, friction and other hydrodynamic thingummy bobs

And the slightest change makes a huge difference to the way a board surfs - I'm no expert on fin design, but I know what happens when I make even a tiny adjustment on the fins

If you want to build a fin 'to see what happens' then, cool, go ahead and let us know what you find out!

But if you're trying to improve on a standard fin or just get them for free then I doubt you'll have much luck!

re-enforced lexan is a good place to start materialwize... but if you're the same guy who posted on swaylocks, go search there.

I made one our of marine plywood years ago just for some fun.
Copied a template of an existing fin, cut it out with a jigsaw, sander the foil into it with a beltsander then applied a couple of coats of heavy duty marine varnish.

worked a treat for a few months till I snapped it.
