Purchased my first board today and am experiencing some concerns much like when i bought my 1st car. This board is used from a local shop and I bought it extremely quickly without really inspecting the board prior. My issue is now that it is home I found some dings on the board along the bottom of the board and tail. I figure these are easy fixes and it would be worth using solarez to alleviate the problem. However i ran my hand over the deck and quickly found a spot that kinda pushes in which really has me spooked and I'm thinking it is delaminating! I dont know what to do and much like my 1st car i bought many years ago (Mazda mx6, a parts car lol) i fear i have to return this beautifulboard.HELP ME HOWARD!

Dude those are some big dings with foam showing. Also looks like it had a crude repair that failed previously. There's a good chance the foam was water logged in the past. I think if that happens enough times it starts to kinda dissolve the integrity of the foam. That might be what's causing the soft area that pushes in also... unless the foam layer feels firm and it's just an air gap under the fiberglass?
I guess it depends on the price you paid for it.. might be a good board to learn repairs if you don't have much invested in it.
I hear ya about the 1st car.. the ad for mine read "loose change under the seats"

If you can return it then return it. While you could, with a bit of work, make the tail waterproof, putting the points on the tail back the way they should be (properly shaped) is a lot of work. You probably need to cut the points way back and shape new foam, attach it and glass it all.

Just making it waterproof won’t be all that much use because you will just have a board with a badly shaped tail. It will work I guess but not what you want

Both responses are very informative and have helped me come to the decision to return the board. I only paid 150 for it and really thought I made a great purchase before realizing I have a lemon of a surfboard. Thanks to the both you. Btw loose change under the seat is selling point I don't take lightly lol. So sad as i had the love at first sight with this one but the buyers remorse was nearly instantaneous which should have been respected lol.

You guys are the best

Please fall in love with a good looking board  Your going in blind, got you a dog you should try to return!

Let‘s talk about this board dispassionately! Foam yellowing spots, mean water discoloration ,, really big obvious dings!

Loss of functional, shape in both smashed swallow tails,

Loose jagged fibreglass in poor repairs that will rip, your leg to pieces.

All this can be seen with the briefest inspection, please before you consider buying any board again post a picture here and we can offer you advice about it!

Newbies buying their first board also need advice on what is suitable for their fledgling abilities, apart from the damage this was probably not a good choice for first board!
