You should be able to duckdive on that, unless it's one of those hogfish super bouyant things. I have a 7'4" 'shortboard'(20 1/4 inches wide, 2 5/8 inches thick) and I can duckdive with it just fine (Then again I am 6'5" 170 pounds) Are you just leaning forward on your board when 'duckdiving'? You should be grabing your rails about 1/3 down the board from the nose (A little bit further up from where you place your hands to pop up)and almost do a pushup to shove the nose in the water, then follow throughunder the wave.

yah nmy board is thick

Postby Hootie24 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:47 pm

Yah i was trying the otehr day to duckdive and i was doing everything that u had said in the post before and what would hapen is i would get under water and then the board would just refuse to go under and stay afloat. It is a pretty thick board. I got it as a begginer so they mite have thought o it would be better to get a board that is more boyant so i could stand easier

Wait, you go under water before your board does? :?

the only thing you should need to do is paddle so you have some speed going into the wave, push the NOSE under water right before you hit the wave, you dont need to try to submerge the entire board.

Huh? My entire board goes under

S'pose we're talking about two slightly different techniques - first for a small(ish) board or for when the wave has already broken: get the whole board under then follow!
Or second, on a slightly bigger board, or if the wave is only beginning to break, where you can gently (!) slip the nose under and let the wave do the work  :D

On a 6'2 you should be able to do the first or second!
