I am looking to make a lockbox that you attach to your car so I can leave all my stuff in the car and put my keys in it. The idea is so I lock my car and leave my keys some where safe so they won't get stolen. I am thinking of using a combination lock so the box is lockable and I Don't need to carry around the keys for that because it will defeat the whole purpose. I am also looking to attach it to the tow bar of my car as there is a hole in it that I can just stick a padlock through which will be attached to the box. I would love to have some tips on what I should do and not do thanks.

There are a number these types around for sale, obviously depending on which country you are in. one issue is a good pry bar can snap them open easily.

Look down below to similar topics, this has been discussed a lot!

Whatever you do, don't get the Master lock box. Our shop stopped selling it after we found out how easy it can be opened.

I really wouldn't use a lockbox for keys. As well as advertising the location of your keys, a swift blow with a hammer or prying with a prybar will open them.
You could make one which is stronger than the commercial offerings, but a determined thief will still get in. It's so easy to take your keys in the water with you, either wrapped in cling film or with a proper waterproof pouch for environmental friendliness.

I have this one. It's great until it starts to rust. I still use it though.
It all depend on your local beach. Some of my friends lives in places where they don't even lock the car. Or they just hide the key somewhere safe. I would think that you don't need to lock your car in Japan.
