Using fcs MR twins as front quad fins?

Usually surf as a thruster hence the quad question.

It’s summer in my neck of the woods the surf has disappeared. Finally looks like we have something in a couple of days but it will be weak, gutless 3/4ft over 6 secs windswell at best. Could use my longboard but really fancy getting out on my hybrid / swallowtail (6,9 and floaty at 50ltrs). Wondered if sticking in the MR twins on the front with performer rears would help generate some much needed speed, or are the too large / sticky ( I have some large and medium performer / g5 side fins I can use instead). I know I should probably just stick em in and see how they go but my break only works at mid tide for a couple of hours and this looks like the last session for a fair while!!!

Question: What is the usually thruster set up on that board ? Is it the MR-TX Twin-Stabi set up ?

No. I found The board really lacked drive out of my first bottom turn with the MRs + stabi, which surprised me because they are massive. The board seems to ride best (for me) with some hexcore mediums which are a G5 copy. The larger ul-7s (pretty similar to performer) seem quicker and smooth, but I like to get a bit more aggressive with the back end and the g5s help me the most. I’m guessing I’ve probably answered my own question.......pic of board below (full dims are 6,9 22.5” x 2 15/16 )

If the board is FCSII, then I would recommend trying FCSII CARVERS. Had a lot more power / drive than the Performers.

As a tri set?

I took the board out as a quad today and it just confirmed that thruster is my preference. I couldn’t get the board to pivot quickly after take off and just found myself trimming or going straight on. Much prefer a single or tri as I find it easier to manoeuvre back onto the shoulder of the wave.

Glad you found out that Quads are not the holy grail of speed and turns. To each his own. There’s no one perfect set up ( or board ) that suits everyone.

Swapped the mr’s for some neo glass carvers....quite a bit more flex than my hex core set. Looking forward to trying them out....predictably conditions are flat for next week

Tried out the carvers twice now. Seem to fit the gap nicely between my medium m5s and the large ul-7s. More drive than the m5s and seemed to pick up speed easier when pumping, but not as sticky as the UK-7s.

Thanks again!!!
