Where to put the pad?

Postby Raiz » Tue Jul 09, 2019 9:33 am

Hi all,

I recently bought a used Torq Tec M2 8'0 with thruster fins (planning to keep thruster, no use for going quad)
https://www.torq-surfboards.com/tec-m2.html

I'd like to have a traction pad on my surfboards (yes even on a larger one like this), so I bought this one:
https://www.dakine-shop.nl/detail/index/sArticle/17610

Now the big question... where is the best placement? On the Torq website (see link above) there's a nice 3D viewer so you can see the fin placement. As reference, check the blue/white board (which is the same color as I have). I was thinking about placing the pad halfway the blue/white area, so it will be just over the front fins (black fin boxes), but not above the center fin. I'm just a little worried if it's not too far back.

Can you guys please advise?

Thanks!

I've been told that you always put the pad on where your rear foot is located. What is the point of putting it further back if that is not where you put your rear foot.

How is the tec boards? I've been thinking of buying one but I'm not able to do a test run of it.

From the Torq sites own photo, you can see the riders back foot in the blue area during turns.

The front of pad ( or any part ) should be totally in the blue area.

Your back foot should/needs to be over the fin(s) in a turn. So thus, put the pad over the fin(s)

Please, Please don't put your traction pad too far up like this.......

You can see the holes on top of the deck that shows where the thruster fins are bolted in. The pad was installed way too far forward.

Oh whow I never thought of looking at those photo's/video's on the Torq site to see where he has his back foot. Thats a great reference lol. Thanks!

@BanZ, I've surfed it a few times now and I really like it. One of my friends has a "normal" Torq 8'0 fun board which I've also used a few times, and I must honestly say, I don't really notice any difference. But then again, I'm surfing relatively small and choppy waves, so no long rides where I can make a lot of turns and stuff, so it's just a paddle, popup, down the line and the wave is gone. But still, the board feels great.
