Howdy all!
I bought this board for $50 on a whim as a decoration. When I picked the board up, I realized it was actually a half-decent board but I can’t find any real marks other than the dimensions. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? It’s a 6’6”x20 1/2”x2 5/8”. “doob” is scribbled on the stringer
I don’t need any help looking like a kook, but I do want to give it a go at some point.

Its a promotional board - given away/won in a competition/prize in a surfing contest (which you probably figured out!)
As to who made the board, who knows - its a pretty common standard shape for a 'fish' / hybrid board. Without further info there isnt much chance of identifying the maker (the 'doob' on the stringer could be the shaper, the person its made for or more likely just a random comment that goes with it being a promotional board - beer and doob) It doesnt matter who makes it, just go and surf it.
If you put enough wax on it you can cover up most of the beer commercial, the yellow otherwise looks pretty good.
I assume you surf at the moment? Not really a great beginners board

Right on! Thanks so much for the info! I was just surprised to see it be such a surf-able board. I’m used to seeing these sorts of “boards” that are essentially just wooden wall decorations.
I’ve been surfing for about 4 years but thus far all longboard. I would eventually like to give shortboard a try, though being 6’2” 200 pounds, I’d imagine I need a “step-down” board first. I’m looking for an egg in the 7’ range as we speak!
Thanks again for the info!

That will be a good short board for you eventually, if you keep at it. I’m 6’1”, about 190-200, and I’ve been surfing for two years, at least 3 times a week. Only recently have I been able to step down to a short board; I have a 6’0 fish and a 6’3 custom hollow wood board. I experimented A LOT with different shapes & sizes... I’d recommend an egg like you’re looking at or maybe a smaller foamie. I stepped down to a 7’ Softech, and it really helped me get the feel of a shorter board while keeping the volume. If you can borrow or rent one, I’d give it a shot. Same for a funboard/egg.

Personally I would take that board out for a few sessions and just see how it goes. Almost certainly it will be too hard for you but it’s still worth trying it out just to see what it feels like
Then go and get your 7ft+ egg and get cracking

So...first try out the Pacifico board and get drinking, then get the 7ft+ egg and get cracking.
