ahh, having to get a winter wetsuit - this time of the year. Its a real pain, I splashed out a lot on my winter wetsuit, had to as it was the only one that came with a hood (detachable too). It might not be the prettiest wetsuit but it works amazing and keeps me warm and well.Dont wanna have to think about buying another one in ages!
If you get a wetsuit, dont buy a cheap crap one that wont work well. Get the best one you can afford that comes in a perfect snuggly yet tightish fit, you'll appreciate it when it keeps you well.

gonna have a tough time trying to rent a winter suit...i know places round my area dont rent winter suits simply cause its not safe for beginners when it is this cold, and beginners are usually the ones in need of rental gear.
a good way to save some cash is check and see if any local shops to you are selling used winer suits at a discounted price (i know its a little gross, but you gotta make due, and as long as it smells/looks pretty clean you should be all set)
