Hi everyone!

I am a beginner surfer and I am about to mount my GoPro in the nose of the surfboard as I have been told is the best way of obtain some feedback about my surf mistakes.

However, it seems to me I will be hitting the GoPro mount every single time I wipe out, or slip my front foot... :/

Have you ever had any accident with the GoPro Mount before?

Thank in advance!

Roberto

Your best and safest beginner learning video set up is someone from the beach.
It really shows where you are going wrong!
GoPro front of Board do Not really show what is happening, Wave wise and you look like you are an having epileptic spasm in the shower!
+ as you have found out it is an object that videos your head as a crash cam!

It should be OK. You may hit a couple of times but it shouldn’t hurt too much. To be safer you opt for a mount with a longer leg. It will break down upon an impact which minimizes the injury hazard. But it could be annoying to handle a broken mount in the ocean.

Yeah, sound like having a camera mate is as relevant as a lawer mate when you are a surfer

First thing is to identify what problem you have. " But that's what I'm trying to figure out", you might say. Well if you are currently having problems Paddling, Catching, Popping Up, then mounting a GoPro won't really matter. Now if you're falling off on your cutbacks or spinning out on your bottom turns, then maybe the Gopro can point out some improper stance or positioning mistakes.

One of the biggest bad habits beginner surfers have is Looking Down at their feet or nose of the board. I think a Gopro will just make you unconsciously look down even more.

Yep! I broke two or three mounts and on other occasions my mounts just got detached from my surfboards.

get a few wipeouts under your belt before you put a camera on the board. As a beginner you might often wipe out by sliding forward over the board and bodysurfing the wave with the board trailing behind you. Obviously in that case you will go through the camera.
But as you get better at anticipating wipeouts and better at waxing your board, those types if wipeouts won't happen anymore.
