I've picked up a 2nd hand board and just noticed a small crease on the bottom. Dude said that there was a ding that was patched up with resin on one side which I thought was ok, but I didn't notice that there was a slight crease at the same level on the opposite side of the board. Assuming it was creased together as it's in the same area, it's not visible in all lights only at certain angles. Definitely can feel the depression when running a hand over though. Stops just short of the rail and centre of the board.

Does it need fixing/is something like this worth fixing?

Wow.....stringerless carbon wrap eps board right? That is a real shame....I’ll let the resident experts confirm what I believe is true which is boards like that depend on their sheathing construction for their strength and once comprimised there really isn’t much that can be done........personally I’d call the guy who sold it to you and do my best to get my money back.

I don't surf lightly glassed stringerless boards and I have never had a crease in any board I ever owned. All of my boards have extra glass instead of lightly glassed. However I think that is a sign of a short life for this board. Most likely the board will crease further or break in two if you don't fix it or do a weak job fixing it. If you do fix it in any meaningful way it will no longer be a super light board which flexes when you turn it. However I haven't had to deal with such a thing ever. My advice would be to take it to a board repair guy or surf shop repair guy and ask them about it. I think it's likely that is an advanced level board and you are probably a beginner so not likely a good deal anyway you want to look at it. However if you actually are a decent surfer then it was a mistake not to go over the board carefully first.

That horizontal line is a stress fracture / crease. But I can see a repaired ding on the rail.



Board is going to snap. Maybe tomorrow, maybe two years from now. Just enjoy riding it.

My first thought is that you should contact Lost and see what they recommend. Based on what they say, you can either:
1) Take their recommendation back to the seller and re-negotiate or try to get your money back.
2) Get it fixed as per their recommendation.
3) Ride it 'til it dies.

I suspect that they'll say something like you'll need to reinforce the carbon areas if they've been compromised and re-glass the lightly creased areas since they're pretty shallow. But, I'm curious what their response is, so please report back when you find out.

Ultimately, it's only worth fixing if you got a good deal on it to begin with and/or the repair isn't too expensive. But keep in mind that the resale value of a board with a crease repair generally won't be good.

Unfortunately this is the fault of pro surfers and board manufacturers. Long ago boards were meant to last a while but the pro surfers found they liked boards that were too light to last very long. They may beak 20 or 30 boards a year. And of course then the manufacturers want to share these boards with everyone. Not very ecologically minded.
