Hey Guys,

Im on the edge when choosing between an e-bomb and oneil hyperfreak 4/3.

The link below rates the hyperfreak higher, better in all categories except warmth.

Any personal opions. I have a 3/2 e-bomb but its not warm enough for winter. I really like it, but i dont have much to compare it to.

Any advice or other golden nuggests is appreciated!

Seems like that review covers most of it... The question is, how does the hyperfreak 4/3 compare to your e-bomb 3/2 for warmth? If the rip curl is superior in this category, you might wind up with a more comfortable suit with about the same insulative quality as the one you already own.

1) Both brands, Oneill and Ripcurl, are made in the SAME factory.

2) If your surf break gets windy, I would go with a smooth skin on the chest and back. I don't think any of the current E-bombs offer smooth skin front and back, just back. The F-bombs do, they are way better but way more expensive.

Really? I thought they're separately owned - O'neill in Santa Cruz and Rip Curl in Oz. Rip Curl, at least, claims they have their own factory at the bottom of this article: https://stabmag.com/news/every-wetsuit- ... hese-guys/

Personally, I used to surf Rip Curl suits all the time, but I think they're a generation or two behind other brands in materials and have been for the last few years.

The original article didn't state that, and they added the annotation * to update the info. I think currently the Rip Curl factory is in Thailand, not Oz.

Can't help much in terms of temperature but having recently bought a new hyperfreak, can comment on the fit. Hopefully this helps...

I struggled to get a good fit with the rip curl and sized down then couldn't get it on.

I am a MT according to the ONeill size chart but the shop guy said they size up big. I ended up with a ST and it's a perfect fit after a couple of hours in the water. I'm 183cm (6 foot) and 78kg (172lbs).

It's the comp (zipless) 5/4 and despite being past my most flexible, I found it fine to get on and off since it's so stretchy. Even got out of it fairly easily after a session when I had dead arms and could no longer paddle for a wave.

Hyperfreak did well here for fit and price too

Perhaps a 5/4 if you own a 3/2 but need warmth? The hyperfreak stretch could offset some of the thickness?

Overall extremely happy with my O'Neill, but only because it fits so well.
