Surfing Waves

At the risk of getting more confused (it seems whoever I ask or wherever I look folks think differently about this

Got an old foamie played in the summer mush, never waxed it and have managed fine (mostly in boots)

Got a Torq soft deck to extend my surfing season in to the autumn here in the UK (so cold/cool water). Some folks say wax it, other not. Of those that say wax it I have been pointed to bodyboard wax, base wax and "normal" wax - thoughts?

And of those folks, who of them actually use foam top/sponge boards ?

So you answered your own question. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" ( or mess with it ).

That said, I wax all my sponge boards and all but one has a traction pad added. When you wax a sponge, it is not like waxing a hard board. No need for circular motions, just light hash marks like wolverine claws.

Def wax, helps with traction. On foam boards , I noticed was doesn't stay on as long as on hard boards so you will need to wax it more often

I think foamies tend to have rougher skin (and better grip) than soft tops in my limited experience, but it just depends on your particular board- some have more grip than others- and your preferences. If your board feels like it could use more grip, then wax it! Can't hurt in any case.

I think the smoother it is, the more likely you want to do the regular hard board treatment with base wax and regular wax. But if it feels like it just needs a little help, just some regular wax may be fine (that's what I did with my foam board.)

I surfed those Torq softop foam before. You don't need to wax it unless it is so worn out that it doesn't have any grip left.

Not to be glib but if it is slippery or you feel that your grip on the board is not good enough then wax it.
